The Coaching Institute is a new pillar of our organization dedicated to advancing wheelchair basketball on a global scale through coach education and development. It will serve as the home for international initiatives, programs, and events designed to empower coaches at every stage with an emphasis on emerging coaches.
Great coaches are the foundation of a thriving sport. By investing in coach development, we're investing in every athlete, every team, and every community they impact. Coaches who have access to mentors, educational opportunities, unique learning experiences, and ongoing support create better learning environments, inspire athletes to stay involved, elevate the quality of competition, and grow the game from the grassroots to the international stage. We are expanding and elevating the coaching tree model for wheelchair basketball.
What does the Coaching Institute offer?
An immersive tournament experience: The Coaching Institute will invite wheelchair basketball coaches from countries where the sport is developing or where coaching and sport infrastructure is still being established to participate in an immersive coaching education experience held in conjunction with an elite international tournament. This immersive experience will be guided by a Lead Coach and will utilize a tailored coaching curriculum.
A year-long mentorship program: Following the tournament experience, participants will receive year-long follow-up coaching support. The participant coaches will have a 1-on-1 monthly virtual meeting with the Lead Coach, as well as ongoing access to coaches and resources for the year to maintain support. This ongoing mentorship will help coaches return to their home countries, apply what they have learned, address challenges, and continue developing their coaching skills.
